TAGs provide guidance to ONR inspectors on how to interpret and apply the Safety Assessment Principles (SAPs) and Security Assessment Principles (SyAPs). Some TAGs also support the enforcement of Licence Conditions, complementing the Technical Inspection Guides.
Because they cover a wide range of regulatory topics, TAGs are relevant to all ONR Inspectors, regardless of their specific role. They also help licensees and dutyholders understand ONR’s expectations for the technical content of safety cases and security plans.
Each TAG focuses on a specific technical area and is used at the Inspector’s discretion.
