ONR launches new digital route for reporting radioactive material transport incidents

The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) has launched an efficient new route for reporting transport-related incidents.

This change provides dutyholders with a dedicated digital route for notifying ONR of incidents involving the transport of radioactive material, where ONR acts as the Competent Authority under the Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Use of Transportable Pressure Equipment Regulations 2009 (CDG09).

Transport-related incidents have previously been reported to ONR by email. The new transport reporting incident link within the ONR Dutyholder Portal streamlines reporting, supporting ONR's drive to modernise its processes and ways of working.

The new link on the ONR Dutyholder Portal homepage is available to transport dutyholders who do not already have an account on the ONR Dutyholder Portal, allowing them to submit a transport notification directly without the need to register.

Registered users can find the new link under the 'Incidents' tab after they have logged in.

Transport dutyholders who are unable to access the ONR Dutyholder Portal can still provide the required information using an ONR Incident Notification Form (INF 1), submitted via email to onr.incidents@onr.gov.uk.

But ONR encourages dutyholders to use the ONR Dutyholders Portal wherever possible, as this enables faster, more efficient handling of reported incidents, benefiting both dutyholders and the regulator.

The new process will help ensure a consistent approach to transport incident notification, strengthening ONR's regulation and wider nuclear transport safety.
