The Office for Nuclear Regulation, along with the Environment Agency and Natural Resources Wales, have been asked to begin a 3-step Generic Design Assessment (GDA) for X-energy UK Holdings Ltd.’s Xe-100 high-temperature gas-cooled reactor design.
The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero made the request to the regulators following its readiness review of X-energy UK Holdings Ltd.'s application.
This review concluded that the design is ready to enter the GDA process.
The assessment will begin once the necessary arrangements around timescales and resources have been put in place.
X-energy UK Holding Ltd.'s is also currently engaging with UK regulators as part of Tier 3 Preliminary Design Review (PDR) on selected topic areas of the Xe-100 design.
