XPO Transport Solutions UK Ltd to be prosecuted after vending machine incident

The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) has notified XPO Transport Solutions UK Ltd that it will be prosecuted for a health and safety offence following an incident at Dungeness B Power Station.

This relates to an accident involving a vending machine at the nuclear site in Kent in March 2024, which left an XPO employee with serious leg injuries and requiring hospital treatment.

The incident occurred when employees from the Northamptonshire-based logistics company lost control of a vending machine being moved down a staircase which fell onto one of the workers.

The prosecution relates to an alleged breach of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 Section 2(1).

The decision to begin legal proceedings follows an investigation by ONR, the UK’s independent nuclear regulator.

The incident was a conventional health and safety matter, and there was no radiological risk to the public.

Details of the date and location of the first hearing will be announced by ONR when available.

As legal proceedings are active, ONR is unable to provide further comment on the case at this time.
