Nuclear Restoration Services complies with improvement notice

Nuclear Restoration Services (NRS) has complied with an Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) improvement notice issued following an incident at its Dounreay site in Caithness, Scotland.

The enforcement action was taken in April after a radiological contamination monitor, weighing approximately two tonnes, overturned while being moved.

Although nobody was seriously harmed in the incident, it posed a significant risk to worker safety.

ONR is satisfied that the required improvements specified in the notice have been completed by NRS, who are responsible for safely decommissioning first generation and research sites across the UK.

This notice was served under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, Regulation 3(1) and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998, Regulation 4 (3).
