Key findings, inspector's opinions and reasons for judgement made

I carried out a Licence Condition (LC)32 and LC34 inspection at the NRS Hinkley Point A site. I reviewed the Radioactive Waste Management Case for compliance with LC32 and was able to establish the “golden thread” for high-density concrete box waste package containing legacy ion-exchange resin waste from the pond treatment plant. I used a walkdown of the Interim Storage Facility to check for compliance against LC34 and inspected waste records for compliance against LC32.

Conclusion

In my opinion, the Licensee's arrangements for compliance with LC32 and LC34 are adequate. I inspected waste records and conducted a site walkdown to inspect accumulations for compliance against LC32 and it was my opinion that adequate arrangements had been made and implemented on the site. My plant walk-down of the Interim Storage Facility demonstrated compliance against LC34. The Hinkley Point A, Radioactive Waste Management Case was in my opinion compliant with the requirements of LC32. I therefore concluded that this inspection identified no further matters that may impact significantly on nuclear safety.
