Key findings, inspector's opinions and reasons for judgement made
The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) undertook a planned inspection of work relating to the practice of industrial radiography ongoing at BAE Systems Marine Limited (BAEML)
The purpose of the inspection was to judge the adequacy of the dutyholders compliance with relevant statutory provisions relating to work with ionising radiation. This intervention was also in support of the consent application for the practice of industrial radiography submitted to ONR by BAEML
The inspection consisted a walk down of the non-destructive testing (NDT) bays as well as observation of site based radiography in Devonshire Dock Hall (DDH) as well as discussions with duty holder representatives.
On the whole, good compliance with the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 was noted in the work activities that were observed.
Conclusion
On the basis of the evidence sampled for the practice of industrial radiography; legal standards and relevant good practice related to the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 were met . As such I judged the arrangements to be adequate and, therefore, rate the inspection ‘Green’.
