The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) undertook a planned inspection to judge DRDL’s compliance against the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 (IRR17) for submarine maintenance operations. It also include an inspection of DRDL's ability to adequately implement its arrangements made under Licence Condition (LC) 18: Radiological protection.
The inspection consisted a walk down of operations being conducted in and around of the 9 dock facility a review of the supporting documentation associated with the work as well as discussions with duty holder representatives.
On the basis of the evidence sampled two regulatory issues were raise regarding material breaches of the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017. However these were minor deficiencies in compliance arrangements. Overall I judged the arrangements to be adequate and, therefore, rate the inspection ‘Green’.
