- Request number: FOI202604005
- Release of information under: FOIA
Information requested
I'd like to make another follow up request - this time I would just like an updated version of the data.
I would like it if this could start from 2019 as before but now include the full year data for 2025 and the data for 2026 so far.
As before, I would like the data to show:
- The annual number of inspections carried out each year (broken down by inspections for civil nuclear license holders and other entities)
- The annual number of licence condition activities carried out (I would like this data to be broken down by type of license condition activity and a brief description/definition of what that activity is if it is not obvious from its title)
- The annual number of inspection activities carried out by security and safeguard teams (I would like this data to be broken down by type of license condition activity and a brief description/definition of what that activity is if it is not obvious from its title)
- The annual number of inspection activities focusing on transport (I would like this data to be broken down by type of license condition activity and a brief description/definition of what that activity is if it is not obvious from its title)
- The annual number of inspection activities focusing on radiological and conventional health and safety (I would like this data to be broken down by type of license condition activity and a brief description/definition of what that activity is if it is not obvious from its title)
- The annual number of INF1 reports that the ONR has received broken down into categories (nuclear / radiological / security / safeguards / transport / another) (I would like this data to be separated into civil nuclear license holders and other entities. I would also like the data to be separated into severity categories such as major, minor, moderate, no significance, etc)
I would like the data to be provided in Excel format. I would like to the data to be as up to date as possible.
Our response
We confirm that under s.1 of the FOIA, we hold the information you have requested. Please see the spreadsheet attached.
Further information
This response should be read in conjunction with ONR’s response to your earlier FOI request, ONR inspections and incidents datetime="2025-09-15">15 September 2025. The ‘further information’ section remains relevant.
Tables 1 to 5 carry data for the full calendar year 2025, and up to 24 May 2026. We have not reproduced data already provided for years 2019 to 2024 as this has already been published alongside FOI202507025. Greater clarity has been introduced to Table 1 by assigning inspections across the breadth of our regulatory remit. This includes civil licensed sites, defence licensed sites, and other sites that are not licensed. The latter can include defence authorised sites, universities, and transport dutyholders for example. The previous FOI response referred in Table 1 to ‘licensed site’ as meaning inspections of civil licensed sites.
Table 6 spans the full period 2019 to 24 May 2026. This has been done because an inconsistency was identified in the previous FOI response between data provided and accompanying Table 6 notes. To clearly reflect our remit, and to be consistent with the approach in Table 1, incidents across our purposes have been assigned to one of three site categories (civil licensed, defence licensed and not licensed) based on incident information submitted by the dutyholder.
