Licenced ADR class 1 and ADR class 7 companies

  • Date released: 10 November 2025
  • Request number: FOI202510042
  • Release of information under: FOIA

Information requested

Provide (where available) an electronic list of companies that are licensed, authorised, or registered by your authority (the Office for Nuclear Regulation – ONR) to handle or transport ADR Class 1 (explosive substances) and ADR Class 7 (radioactive materials) during the past three years.

If possible, it would be very helpful to receive the following basic company information in a simple table (CSV or XLSX preferred):

  • Company name (as shown on the licence)
  • Postal code / city / country
  • Activity type (carrier, consignor, packager, storage operator etc.)
  • Hazard class (1 and/or 7)

Please note that I am only requesting non-personal, non-security-sensitive company data.

If parts of this information cannot be shared for security reasons, I would greatly appreciate any summary version or anonymised dataset you are able to provide.

Information released

We confirm that under s.1 of the FOIA, we do not hold the information you have requested.

This is because ONR does not regulate the transport of Class 1 Dangerous Goods as defined in the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR). ONR does regulate the civil transport of Class 7 Dangerous Goods as defined in ADR, however there is no requirement for us to license, authorise or register organisations undertaking Class 7 transport operations. Consequently, we do not hold the information requested.

Exemptions applied

None

Public Interest Test (PIT):
