Key findings, inspector's opinions and reasons for judgement made
The inspector reviewed a range of topics and identified a number of examples of St Bartholomew's Hospital (St Barts) meeting relevant good practice in reducing risk to levels that are ALARP and demonstrating compliance with IRR17 and CDG09, including having transport Radiation Risk Assessments, contingency plans and Local Rules and having appropriate appointment of Radiation Protection Advisers (RPAs), Dangerous Goods Safety Advisers (DGSAs) and Radiation Protection Supervisors (RPSs), transport documents, transport package certification, training and DGSA annual report.
No non-compliances were identified, however, the inspector gave some advice during the inspection that related to improvements to St Barts transport compliance arrangements, in line with relevant good practice.
Conclusion
The inspection findings were presented to St Barts at the close of the inspection.
I judged an overall inspection rating of ‘Green - No Formal Action’ was appropriate for this inspection as there were relatively minor deficiencies in compliance arrangements.
As St Barts is part of Barts Health NHS Trust, the findings of this inspection should be applied to all transport activities undertaken by the trust.
