Key findings, inspector's opinions and reasons for judgement made
The inspector reviewed a range of topics and identified a number of examples of University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust meeting relevant good practice and meeting the requirements of IRR 17 as they relate to transport of radioactive material, including reducing risk to levels that are as low as reasonable practicable (ALARP), appointment of Radiation Protection Advisers and Radiation Protection Supervisors, evidence of an effective radiation risk assessment and radiation protection programme, and consequent low doses to staff. The inspector identified several areas where UHP demonstrated compliance with the requirements of CDG 09 and ADR, including use of adequate transport documentation, marking and labelling of packages, determination of the correct Transport Index, adequate security arrangements, appointment of a Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor and evidence of suitable training being provided.
The inspector identified no statutory non-compliances. However, informal advice was provided on 5 specific detailed apsects of UHP's arrangements.
Conclusion
The inspection findings were presented to UHP at the close of the inspection.
The inspector judged an overall inspection rating of 'Green - no formal action' was appropriate overall for this inspection, as relevant good practice was generally met, with only minor shortfalls identified, when compared with appropriate benchmarks.
No further formal action is required arising from this inspection, however UHP is encouraged to consider the regulatory advice provided.
