Further Information:
To clarify our response, we do not hold the information as we have not produced a report into the collapse of the Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS) silo.
We are currently awaiting the outcome of the licensee’s investigation and their report into the causes of the collapse. In addition, our specialist inspectors are continuing to work with experts from the Health and Safety Executive.
This means that at the moment we cannot speculate on the cause of the collapse. However, when all the evidence has been gathered, we will then form an independent view as to the causes of the incident.
Once the licensee’s report has been provided to us, it will be reviewed by our inspectors and will provide one source of evidence to help inform our regulatory response to the incident. We also expect that NNB GenCo and its contractors will share learning from the event with relevant parties and organisations (which could include committees such as SCOSS) to help prevent reoccurrence of similar events in the wider construction industry.
