Key findings, inspector’s opinions and reasons for judgement made

This inspection assessed Magnox Ltd Winfrith’s appointment of suitably qualified and experienced persons for handling radiological waste.

This was a planned inspection at the Magnox Ltd Winfrith Site. The inspection was undertaken as part of the intervention strategy for the Decommissioning, Fuel and Waste (DFW) Sub-Division.

During the inspection I undertook a review of appointments, training records and training requirements of Task Supervisors and charge hands tasked with handling waste on the SGHWR project.  The inspection also included a walkdown of the facility and discussion with the waste handling staff on their understanding of the role and the training they received. The staff were clearly knowledgeable and positively responded to all questions.

I have rated this LC10, LC12 and LC26 inspection as Green “No formal action” as I consider that the individuals sampled from the waste handling organisation, including task supervisors to be suitably qualified and experienced with respect to waste handling operations and that training plans, material and assessment were adequate.

Conclusion

I have rated this LC10, LC12 and LC26 inspection as Green “No formal action” as I consider that the individuals sampled from the waste handling organisation, including task supervisors to be suitably appointed, qualified and experienced with respect to waste handling operations and that training plans, material and assessment were adequate.
