Aim of inspection

This inspection was initiated following the receipt of the "notification of the transport of category III nuclear material from, to or within the United Kingdom" on 13/03/2023 for the movement serial number: K2-69314. (462/23/NMDRA/046). The purpose of this joint transport safety and security reactive inspection is to review compliance of the duty-holder's arrangements with respect to NISR and CDG 2009 class 7 radioactive material by road. This IR details the inspection outcomes from a transport safety perspective only. Please refer to IR-11038 for the inspection outcomes of transport security.

Key findings, inspector's opinions and reasons for judgement made

The compliance inspection was initiated following the receipt of a notification from the transport UK/European movement officer regarding the transport of category III nuclear material UN3329, a type B(M)F package, on 13/03/2023. The inspection was to examine the adequacy of the arrangements of this radioactive material shipment from Magnox's Harwell site (consignor) to Sellafield (carrier and consignee), from both the transport safety and security perspective. No major shortfalls were identified during the inspection from a transport safety perspective and the overall inspection rating was green. Conclusion

Based the evidence provided during the inspection, I judged the overall inspection rating is "Green".
