The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) has today published a new openness and transparency policy – thought to be the first publication of its kind by a national nuclear regulator.
The policy sets out the guiding principles ONR will apply to the disclosure of information, in its communications and engagement with interested stakeholders and the wider public. It also demonstrates our ambition to provide greater opportunities for two-way engagement and ensures our communications are meaningful for everybody as we embed our principles - accessibility, confidence and accountability.
The policy also covers our current approach and intentions for future excellence, in line with relevant legislation and guidance.
ONR has sought to be open and transparent in the development of this policy through its engagement with stakeholders and staff to ensure it has been informed by their views.
Throughout November and December, we conducted a consultation on the draft policy.
Responses were received from fellow regulators, NGOs, public bodies and interested stakeholders and colleagues from within ONR.
This information has now been analysed and the policy refined to take feedback on board.
The analysis of the consultation responses identified several common themes which have been explored in our consultation response document.
