Aim of inspection
The aim of this inspection was to sample Sizewell A's arrangements for the maintenance of plant on site. For this inspection, I made judgements against the expectations set out for compliance with LC 28.

Key findings, inspector's opinions and reasons for judgement made
I judged the adequacy of NRS Ltd.'s Sizewell A's site arrangements and their implementation against the expectations associated with Licence Condition (LC) 28 (Examination, Inspection, Maintenance and Testing). Following an investigation into an event on site (INF-4300), it was concluded that aspects of site maintenance had not met good practice. This inspection was therefore devised to target the sites arrangements, to determine the extent of condition. This inspection examined aspects of the following:
- The maintenance schedule for safety related plant, including frequencies and coverage
- Sampling of maintenance records to ensure compliance
- Arrangements to ensure that only SQEP personnel conduct maintenance activities
Sizewell A has a mature set of arrangements for LC28, and I was content that they are being implemented adequately on site. Maintenance is being adequately planned and reviewed, and site is ensuring that they have an adequate number of trained personnel for the work that is required on site.
Conclusion
From the evidence that I sampled during the course of this inspection, I consider that the licensee has adequate arrangements for the control of Examination, Inspection, Maintenance and Testing on site. I consider that a rating for LC28 of green (no formal action) is warranted for this inspection.
