Executive summary

Purpose of Intervention

The purpose of this intervention was to carry out a planned inspection of compliance with site licence conditions (LC) at Sizewell B, operated by EDF Energy Nuclear Generation Limited (EDF NGL, the licensee), in accordance with ONR’s integrated intervention strategy for the site. Because of restrictions currently in place as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, this inspection was conducted remotely.

Interventions Carried Out by ONR

I carried out an inspection of compliance with LC 4 (restrictions on nuclear matter on the site) and LC 5 (consignment of nuclear matter).

The intervention was performed in line with ONR's guidance requirements (as described in our technical inspection guides) in the areas inspected.

I inspected the licensee’s procedures for receiving, moving, storing and consigning nuclear matter, and examined documentation demonstrating compliance with those procedures. I talked to personnel involved in all stages of the handling of nuclear matter on site, and examined role profiles and training records for a sample of personnel in key positions.

Not applicable; this was not a system-based inspection.

Based on the procedures reviewed and evidence sampled, I have rated compliance with both LC4 and LC 5 green, because the licensee:

Conclusion of Intervention

Based on the evidence gathered during this intervention, I consider that there were no matters significantly affecting nuclear safety or otherwise requiring immediate regulatory attention, or that required amendments to the integrated intervention strategy for the site.
