This was one of a series of planned Licence Condition (LC) compliance inspections of the Dungeness A Site for 2020/21.

Its purpose was to confirm the adequacy of waste management at the site under arrangements made to comply with LC32 (accumulation of radioactive waste) and LC34 (leakage and escape of radioactive material and radioactive waste).  This was a joint inspection with the EA.

Interventions Carried Out by ONR

I inspected the implementation of Magnox Limited’s waste management arrangements.

I also met the appointed Safety Representatives.

Explanation of Judgement if Safety System Not Judged to be Adequate

Key Findings, Inspector's Opinions and Reasons for Judgements Made

From the evidence examined I judged that the licensee’s implementation of its waste management arrangements under LCs 32 & 34 is adequate.

I undertook plant walk-downs with Magnox Ltd staff.  I noted some improvements from previous visits but also areas where improvements are required.

I provided feedback to the site on the inspection findings at a close-out meeting with management representatives.

Conclusion of Intervention

I am satisfied that the licensee has implemented adequate arrangements to safely manage radioactive waste at the Dungeness A Site.
