Cyclife Metal Recycling Facility (MRF) - Compliance Inspection of IRR17

Executive summary

Purpose of Intervention

This was one of programme of planned inspections at the Cyclife Metals Recycling Facility during 2018/19, developed in accordance with the Decommissioning Fuel & Waste Sub-Division strategy. This inspection targeted the licensee’s compliance with the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 (IRR17).

Key Findings, Inspector's Opinions and Reasons for Judgements Made

There were a number of areas of good practice observed at the site and some minor opportunities for improvements were identified A matter was raised with the licensee, which requires action to be taken to ensure un-containerised waste items are individually included on the contamination survey schedule. This has been discussed with site who accepted our finding; progress with this matter will be tracked through routine regulatory interactions.

Conclusion of Intervention

Based on the inspection outcome, we are satisfied that Cyclife has adequate arrangements in place to comply with IRR17. There are no findings from this inspection that could significantly undermine nuclear safety.
