Oldbury Nuclear Licensed Site Planned Inspection against Licence Conditions 3, 32 and 34 on Operational Records and Control and Supervision of Operations

Executive summary

Purpose of intervention

This record is of my visit to Magnox Ltd’s Oldbury nuclear licensed site as part of ONR’s compliance inspection plan for the site.

Interventions Carried Out by ONR

During the intervention I carried out compliance inspections on licence conditions (LC):

Key Findings, Inspector's Opinions and Reasons for Judgements Made

My inspection of the control of property transactions at Oldbury indicated that the requirements of LC3 were addressed by the Magnox Ltd corporate guidance. There were no property transactions at Oldbury and none were planned.

I found that Oldbury met LC32 requirements for managing radioactive wastes when compared with ONR guidance. I noted however that the radioactive waste management plans for making intermediate level wastes (ILW) passively safe may be changing once defuelling is complete.  I may need to review the arrangements before ILW is treated following the site is declared fuel free.

I discussed the control and containment of radioactive matter with the licensee.  This appeared to be adequate when judged against ONR inspection guidance.

Conclusion of Intervention

My inspection indicated that Oldbury currently meets the requirements of LCs 3, 32 and 34 adequately when compared with ONR guidance.
