Hunterston 'B' Power Station - Vessel Entry Complex Inspection

Executive summary

Purpose of intervention

A planned readiness inspection of EDF Energy Nuclear Generation Limited, (NGL) Hunterston B Power Station Site was undertaken, to evaluate reactor vessel man-entry process in compliance with the Ionising Radiations Regulations 1999.

The vessel entry programme forms part of a statutory outage at the Station running from the beginning of August 2014 and is being undertaken in order to conduct a programme of testing, examination and maintenance of key plant safety structures and systems.

My intervention didn't reveal any radiological protection issues that required action by the Licensee or follow-up by ONR.

Conclusion of intervention

From a radiological protection standpoint, I was content with the Licensee's current state of readiness and preparation for the vessel entry campaign.
