This was a planned inspection of EDF Energy Nuclear Generation Ltd’s (NGL’s) Hinkley Point B power station, undertaken as part of the planned intervention strategy for the Civil Nuclear Reactor Programme (CNRP) of the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR).
The work was carried out in line with the planned inspection programme contained in the Hinkley Point B Integrated Intervention Strategy (IIS).
I (the nominated site inspector for Hinkley Point B):
Attended the scheduled meeting of the Emergency Planning Consultative Committee and a planning meeting for the next emergency arrangements demonstration exercise.
Met with the site internal regulator.
Held a number of information exchange meetings with station staff.
The intervention was performed in line with ONR’s guidance requirements (as described in our technical inspection guides) in the areas inspected.
Not applicable - no system based inspections were carried out during this visit.
I attended the Emergency Planning Consultative Committee and a planning meeting for the next emergency arrangements demonstration on site. I was satisfied with the outcome of both meetings.
I met with the site internal regulator (Independent Nuclear Assurance – INA) to discuss progress with the Reactor 4 statutory outage, ONR issues database, communications during the outage and beyond, and ONR inspection plans for next year. I will continue to meet with INA whilst on site.
I was satisfied with the information exchanged during meetings with station staff on a range of topics including progress with the statutory outage, compliance with the Pressure Systems Safety Regulations, obtained an update on Turbine Alternator 7 brush gear and followed up on the mechanical/electrical safety rules event associated with the removal of the Interim Package Boilers.
