This was a planned inspection at EDF Energy Nuclear Generation Ltd’s (NGL’s) Dungeness B (DNB) power station, undertaken as part of the planned intervention strategy for the Civil Nuclear Reactor Programme (CNRP) of the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR).
The key interventions during this inspection were for licence compliance covering the following licence conditions (LC):
For LC 7, I inspected the site’s arrangements and their implementation for compliance with elements associated with reporting of incidents. I found that the process for generating and processing reports was adequate, although the quality of reports to ONR could be improved. I also reviewed a single investigation. I concluded that I needed to inspect the investigation process further and will do so during my next visit to site. I have therefore not rated compliance against LC 7 and will do so once I have completed the further inspection.
ONR radioactive waste inspectors led an inspection for compliance with LCs 32 and 34. They discussed the site’s arrangements and inspected the principal facilities for radioactive waste management. The conclusions on the two LCs were as follows:
In relation to the other activities undertaken in this intervention, no key findings arose.
The intervention was performed in line with ONR’s guidance requirements (as described in our technical inspection guides) in the areas inspected.
From the evidence obtained during this intervention, no matters have been identified that are likely to have a significant impact on nuclear safety on the station at this time. Therefore, no additional regulatory action arising from this visit is considered necessary at this time.
