Radiological safety compliance Inspection in conformity with the ONR Civil Nuclear Reactor Programme Radiation Protection Plan

Executive summary

Purpose of intervention

The ONR Civil Nuclear Reactor Programme's Radiation Protection Plan requires interventions to be completed during Licensee statutory maintenance and inspection outages.

This report details the outcome of the outage intervention at EDF Energy Nuclear Generation Limited's (NGL) Dungeness B Power Station.

The intervention described in this report was conducted so that I could come to a judgement on whether NGL was operating in compliance with the requirements of the Ionising Radiations Regulations 1999 and in accordance with relevant good radiological protection practice in readiness for return to service of Reactor 21.

Interventions carried out by ONR

The following matters were considered during our intervention:

The licence conditions were inspected against ONR's published guidance requirements (as described in our technical inspection guides).

Explanation of judgement if safety system not judged to be adequate

No system based inspection was undertaken, hence this is not applicable.

Key findings, Inspector's opinions and reasons for judgements made

My intervention didn't reveal any radiological protection issues that required action by the Licensee or follow-up by ONR in advance of start-up.

Conclusion of intervention

From a radiological protection standpoint, we were content with NGL's current state of readiness and preparation for return to service of Reactor 21 at Dungeness B Power Station
