Executive summary

Purpose of intervention

This report covers an inspection of Magnox Ltd's Dungeness A licensed site, undertaken as part of a programme of planned interventions as outlined in the IIS plan for 2014/15.

Interventions Carried Out by ONR

I undertook a compliance inspection against licence condition11, Emergency Arrangements.

Explanation of Judgement if Safety System Not Judged to be Adequate

Not applicable.

Key Findings, Inspector's Opinions and Reasons for Judgements Made

I observed a partial demonstration of the licensee's emergency arrangements. I found that the licensee demonstrated good casualty handling throughout the incident exercise. Although I consider that the arrangements that I witnessed for controlling radiological contamination were adequate, I have identified to the licensee some areas for improvement. Overall, I consider that the licensee was able to control and recover from, the incident that was exercised.

Conclusion of Intervention

The licensee is maintaining a full capability for its current emergency arrangements and therefore nuclear safety is being maintained.
