Executive summary

Purpose of Intervention

This report covers an intervention at the Rosyth Royal Dockyard Ltd (RRDL) licensed site, undertaken as part of a series of planned interventions in accordance with the integrated intervention strategy (IIS) and plan. 

Interventions Carried Out by ONR

The intervention consisted of a site exercise pre-brief held on the afternoon of the 25th September 2018, and observation and assessment of the Level 1 emergency exercise on the 26th September 2018.

Key Findings, Inspector's Opinions and Reasons for Judgements Made

ONR inspectors assessed the response within the Active Waste Accumulation Facility (AWAF) and at the Emergency Response Centre (ERC). Overall the exercise was considered an adequate demonstration of the licensee’s emergency arrangements.

Conclusion of Intervention

ONR consider the exercise to be an adequate demonstration of the RRDL arrangements as required under LC11, with some areas of good practice noted; particularly with respect to radiological protection.
