The purpose of this intervention was to ensure that the Licensee was showing compliance with the requirements of the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005.
This was a follow up inspection as a result of a particular finding during the planned fire safety inspection in January 2018. The issue related to the emergency lighting within the main stores building.
The inspection focused primarily on assessing the progress of the emergency lighting upgrade within the main stores building. I met with the electrical manager who provided me with a detailed description of the design and carried out a function test of the system. I am satisfied that the new design and installation for this system affords adequate protection for the occupants in the event of a power outage to the main lighting circuits.
During my inspection I was also provided with the opportunity to meet with the new Fire Safety Coordinator (FSC) who will commence a two week handover period with the outgoing FSC on the 4th June.
I am satisfied that the upgraded design and installation of the emergency lighting system within the main stores building has addressed the lack of emergency lighting units as previously existed and the system is now fully embedded into the maintenance schedule for this facility. I have therefore rated this inspection as Green.
I am satisfied that the project to improve the emergency lighting provision within the main stores has been completed satisfactorily. The FSC and Electrical Manager have committed to providing me with relevant documentation to demonstrate that the system has been designed and installed such that it will satisfy the expectations of BS 5266.
