Ionising Radiations Regulations Compliance Inspection

Executive summary

Purpose of Intervention

This inspection of the Low Level Waste Repository licensed site was undertaken as part of a planned programme of inspections for 2017/18, and focused on compliance with the Ionising Radiations Regulations1999 (IRR 99).

The inspection included assessment of the Licensee's responses to a questionnaire covering six topics areas included in previous ONR Control of Radiation Exposure (CORE) inspections.

Description of Intervention Carried Out by ONR

The inspection was divided into two elements: the first to assess the general arrangements for compliance with IRR 99 and the second involving the inspection of work areas or activities in order to ensure that the arrangements are being applied to work activities.

The first element of the intervention was segregated into two parts; completion of the questionnaire by the licensee and a desktop discussion of the responses during the site visit.
