Planned intervention to review key regulatory issues and to participate in the stakeholder group meeting. This intervention formed part of the 2016/2017 Intervention Programme.
I participated in the planned periodic meeting with the licensee and the regulators, to review a range of nuclear safety performance metrics and the licensee's progress with key decommissioning projects. This was followed by a meeting to agree the ONR Model Site Plan, containing the site interventions for the forthcoming twelve months. Finally, I participated in the site stakeholder group meeting, reporting on recent ONR interventions.
As no safety system inspection was undertaken, this was not applicable to this intervention.
At the periodic meeting with the licensee and the regulators, the licensee reported an acceptable range of nuclear safety performance metrics. The licensee was making acceptable progress with key decommissioning projects, progressing towards reducing the hazards on the site.
I explained the rationale underpinning the ONR Model Site Plan for 2016/17 and this was readily acknowledged by the licensee. Two joint site inspections will be conducted with the licensee's independent safety inspector and a safety systems intervention was planned.
At the LLWR Working Group meeting, held near the site, I reported recent ONR interventions to the members of the site stakeholder group.
I concluded that this was an informative meeting between the licensee and the regulators, the licensee reporting an acceptable overall performance against a range of nuclear safety performance metrics. No intervention rating was warranted for this meeting.
The licensee readily acknowledged the scope of the ONR Model Site Plan for 2016/17.
The stakeholder representatives at the LLWR Working Group meeting were content with the report which I delivered regarding recent ONR interventions at the site.
