This intervention was a follow up inspection of an ONR issue relating to the emergency diesel generator’s roof mounted equipment. Following an ONR issues quarterly update meeting in January 2017 with the Heysham 2 technical safety and support manager (TSSM) and the station’s plant group head responsible for steam and rotating plant. The progress of work by the station has been reported to the Heysham 2 site inspector over an 18 month period of which the station has provided details of work undertaken and planned work that has been completed during this period of time.
I therefore considered that sufficient progress had been made in the planned improvement work and that that close out of this issue could be undertaken subject to an inspection of selected emergency diesel generator’s roof mounted equipment.
Not applicable - no system based inspections were performed during this intervention.
The following areas were inspected:
Consider the following work as identified in TRIM 2016/209597 had been completed as identified within the station’s planned work schedule for 2016 covered the following areas:
My inspections of the BX/BY and CX/CY roof equipment and the associated sections of existing pipe work had been replaced. From my inspection it was evident that new lagging and cladding, new trace heating and associated junction boxes were in place, along with new cable rack supports. New cross beam members were in place in specific areas, I also noted new valves had also been installed.
During my inspection, I made several observations concerning housekeeping on the station. I judged that there had been a marginal decline in the station’s expected standards in housekeeping. I discussed this with the station’s TSSM who agreed to ensure that the required standards were reinstated and maintained.
From the evidence gathered during this unplanned intervention, I am content to close the ONR issue, and will monitor progress through 2017. Given that the station is addressing the decline in housekeeping I will monitor the stations progress in this area during my routine engagements with the station.
