Planned compliance inspection

Executive summary

Purpose of intervention

In line with the 2016/17 inspection plan for Dounreay I carried out planned inspections and other interventions to provide confidence that Dounreay Site Restoration Ltd. (DSRL) is controlling its hazards properly and complying with its statutory obligations.

Interventions Carried Out by ONR

I undertook compliance inspection against Licence Condition 27 Safety Mechanisms Devices and Circuits (SMDC) and Licence Condition 28 Examination, Inspection, Maintenance and Testing within the Liquor Storage Facility. I met with members of the DSRL senior management to discuss general progress and attended the Dounreay Site Stakeholder Group.

Explanation of Judgement if Safety System Not Judged to be Adequate

Key Findings, Inspector's Opinions and Reasons for Judgements Made

I reviewed the K(SRE) [key safety related equipment] summary which identifies SMDCs derived from the plant safety case and sampled maintenance records. I undertook a plant walk-down to view identified SMDCs. My inspection concluded that SMDCs are adequately derived and maintained.

Conclusion of Intervention

The intervention did not identify any matter impacting on nuclear safety that required immediate regulatory action.
