This report covers planned inspections at the AWE Aldermaston and Burghfield Licensed Site and is undertaken in accordance with ONR's Integrated Intervention Strategy (IIS) for the Atomic Weapons Establishment Programme.
The inspections undertaken at the Burghfield Licensed Site form part of a series of planned interventions in accordance with the IIS and Integrated Intervention Plan (IIP).
The intervention was performed in line with ONR's guidance requirements (as described in our technical inspection guides) in the areas inspected.
ONR conducted a planned inspection and assessment of implementation of the Licence Condition (LC) 22 Modification or Experiment on Existing Plant within the Assembly Facility.
ONR also conducted interventions on the Aldermaston Site's AWE Emergency Information, Assembly Facility Tool Event Update, Assembly Facility Internal Assurance, Assembly Facility Verification Plan and the Burghfield Licensed Site's L3 RIM.
For the LC 22 inspection, based on the discussions and explanations given, including the sample inspected, on this occasion I am satisfied that there were no shortfalls identified with the implementation of the arrangements for LC22 Modification or Experiment on Existing Plant. Therefore I judged this compliance inspection to have a 'No Formal Action' rating. There were no shortfalls identified in the use of the asset change process, the appropriate categorisation of change, maintenance of the configured baseline and arrangements established to mitigate significant change aggregation.
For the Aldermaston Site's AWE Emergency Information, Assembly Facility Tool Event Update, Assembly Facility Internal Assurance, Assembly Facility Verification Plan and the Burghfield Licensed Site's L3 RIM. ONR was satisfied that there were no shortfalls and no need for any regulatory action at this point.
It is ONR's opinion, that from the sample inspected, the implementation of the established arrangements within the Assembly Facility with respect to Licence Condition 22 is to a 'No Formal Action' rating.
There are no other findings from this inspection that could significantly undermine nuclear safety.
The planned interventions set out in the Integrated Intervention Strategy for Burghfield site remain valid and will be followed for future inspections.
