Studsvik planned inspection

Executive summary

Purpose of intervention

This report covers a number of interventions with the Studsvik Metals Recycling Facility (MRF), relating to MRF operations which were undertaken as part of the planned ONR MRF inspection programme for 2015/16

Interventions Carried Out by ONR

The main intervention undertaken was:

Explanation of Judgement if Safety System Not Judged to be Adequate

Not applicable

Key Findings, Inspector's Opinions and Reasons for Judgements Made

Licence Condition 7 (LC7) Inspection - The inspection was focussed on reporting of incidents on site but also on reporting and sharing of operating experience (OE). The inspection also provided an introduction opportunity for Mr D Daniels who will be taking over as the MRF site inspector from March 2016. Overall the ONR Site Inspector considered the arrangements were adequate and no significant issues were raised from the inspection although some areas for improvement are recognised by MRF. The ONR Site Inspector will follow up on the on-going MRF work in this area during future site interventions.

Other interventions - It is considered that the various interventions undertaken did not raise any significant new issues or concerns. However a number of actions were placed on MRF to progress and several topics will be followed up in future site visits/ discussions with MRF staff.

Conclusion of Intervention

Other than the items outlined in the previous section no other matters were raised during the interventions covered by this report which were considered to require any immediate additional regulatory action.
