IRR99 Control of Radiation Exposure and LC 18 Inspection

Executive summary

Purpose of intervention

This report provides a record of compliance inspections undertaken at the RRMPOL licensed Nuclear Fuel Production Plant and Neptune sites at Derby.  The compliance inspection is in line with the planned inspection programme detailed in the RRMPOL Intervention plan.

Interventions Carried Out by ONR

On the afternoon of the 20 July and all day on 21 July ONR’s Nominated Site Inspector and three Radiological Protection Specialists undertook inspection of both RRMPOL licensed sites, to evaluate the licensee’s compliance with Licence Condition 18 and the Control of Radiation Exposure under Regulation 8 of the Ionising Radiations Regulations.

Explanation of Judgement if Safety System Not Judged to be Adequate

Not applicable during this intervention.

Key Findings, Inspector's Opinions and Reasons for Judgements Made

The licence conditions were inspected against ONR’s published technical inspection guides.

Conclusion of Intervention

Based on the evidence sampled against IRR99 Regulation 8 and LC18, the ONR inspectors consider that the licensees compliance with the requirements were of an adequate standard, with the exception of the male change-room facility on the Nuclear Fuel Production Plant Site which was considered below standard. The licensee has agreed to make the necessary improvements and the ONR Site Inspector will monitor progress as part of routine regulatory business.

There are no findings from this inspection that could significantly undermine nuclear safety.
