Executive summary

Purpose of intervention

This report covers a planned visit to Magnox Ltd’s Corporate Centre, undertaken in pursuance of ONR’s compliance inspection plan.

Interventions Carried Out by ONR

During this intervention, I carried out a compliance inspection against LC 7 Incidents on site. I also held meetings with the licensee to discuss a number of corporate matters. This summary covers the key findings from the licence condition inspection only.

Key Findings, Inspector's Opinions and Reasons for Judgements Made

The purpose of this intervention was to inspect Magnox Ltd’s corporate arrangements for ensuring that Magnox reactor sites:

From this inspection, I concluded that the corporate arrangements for event investigation and reporting were suitable. However because of the use of aged software systems identifying event trends across the fleet was a time consuming task.

I found that Magnox Ltd has appropriate arrangements for reporting, investigating events and identifying operational experience. It also has arrangements to review and improve its investigations.

Although it was clear to me that Magnox Ltd would benefit from modernising its event reporting software and revising its arrangements, I consider that its corporate arrangements are compliant to LC7

Conclusion of Intervention

From the evidence gathered during this intervention, I conclude that there are no matters that may impact significantly on nuclear safety.
