Dounreay Compliance Inspection

Executive summary

Purpose of intervention

I carried out planned licence condition (LC) 27 (safety mechanisms, devices and circuits) and 28 (examination, inspection, maintenance and testing) inspections in accordance with the 2015/16 integrated inspection strategy (IIS) for Dounreay, to provide confidence that the licensee is controlling its hazards properly and complying with its statutory obligations.

Interventions Carried Out by ONR

I inspected:

Explanation of Judgement if Safety System Not Judged to be Adequate

N/A

Key Findings, Inspector's Opinions and Reasons for Judgements Made

I consider the licensee’s arrangements for compliance with LC 27 and 28, and their implementation of those arrangements, to be adequate in most respects.  There were two areas (extension of maintenance schedule intervals and demonstration of the completeness of maintenance of emergency scheme equipment) where I consider the arrangements could be improved; however, I saw no evidence that the licensee is in breach of LC 27 or LC 28 in either case, and the licensee has committed to reviewing its arrangements in those areas.

Conclusion of Intervention

I did not identify any matter impacting on nuclear safety that required immediate regulatory action.
