The purpose of the intervention was to gain assurance that AWE continues to adequately meet the requirements of all of the following:
The intervention was carried out as part of the AWE site inspection plan. AWE’s arrangements and the implementation of the arrangements were inspected by targeted sampling.
As described in Section 1.1.
During the inspection, I found that AWE’s corporate radiological protection staff were helpful and honest, open to discussion and to suggestions for improvement.
The systems that AWE used to track doses and sources are modern and appear to be robust and secure.
I judge that a ‘Good Standard’ intervention is appropriate on the basis of the adequacy of the arrangements, the high quality of the implementation and the behaviour and attitudes of AWE’s staff.
In my opinion, and from the sample of evidence that was inspected, AWE adequately meets the requirements of LC 18, complies with IRR99 and meets Specification 512.
No further regulatory action is required in respect of these matters at this time.
