Further to my recent FOI request (FOI201912050), I would like to make a clarification. Please could you provide reports made in the last three years on ‘No Deal Brexit’ planning in relation to Heysham 1 and 2 operations?
After a search of our paper and electronic records, I confirm that under Section 1 of the FOIA, that we do not hold the information in your request.
The ONR is the UK’s independent nuclear regulatory authority and, as such, does not have responsibility for EU Exit planning or for planning for a future relationship with the EU. The Secretary of State for Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has overall responsibility for the UK’s civil nuclear regulatory framework and policies including civil nuclear safety and security, new-build and decommissioning programmes, emergency planning and response, nuclear material safeguards and regulation of the transport of radioactive material.
ONR is responsible for regulating safety and security at nuclear licensed sites. As a responsible regulator, we have considered the impact of Brexit across our purposes. In relation to your specific request about Heysham 1 and 2 operations, Brexit does not have an impact on the safe operations of the reactor fleet or the safe shutdown of reactors. Consequently, we have not needed to produce or commission any reports on no deal Brexit planning at Heysham 1 and 2.
You may wish to therefore direct your request to EDF as the site operator. The contact details for Heysham 1 Power Station are:
