BEIS consultation - The Nuclear Reactors (Environmental Impact Assessment for Decommissioning) Regulations
The Nuclear Reactors (Environmental Impact Assessment for Decommissioning) Regulations require all civil nuclear reactor dismantling and decommissioning projects to obtain consent before being allowed to commence. This ensures that projects likely to have significant effect on the environment take due measures to protect and reduce their environmental impact.
This consultation invites comments on proposals for implementing amendments of the European Union Directive on environmental impact assessments in so far as the Directive applies to consent for nuclear decommissioning projects in the UK under the Nuclear Reactors (Environmental Impact Assessment for Decommissioning) Regulations.

- Your views on ONR’s responsiveness to innovation
The Chancellor asked all government departments and regulatory bodies to consider how well they and their associated regulatory regimes are prepared for innovation. ONR ran a consultation until 31 January 2016 to seek stakeholder views which ONR could use to inform DECC's response to the development of a Government Innovation Plan due for publication in spring 2016.
- Public consultation on the request for consent to decommission a nuclear reactor at Imperial College
ONR held a formal 3-month consultation period in order to provide the opportunity for interested parties to comment upon Imperial College's application and decommissioning project. This consultation ran for a 3-month period from 28 January 2015 and ended on 28 April 2015.
- ONR Strategy
ONR is inviting comments on its newfive year strategy, which provides vision and direction for ONR and nuclear regulationfrom 2015.
This consultation began on 15 July 2014 and closed on 06 October 2014.
- 2014 update of the Safety Assessment Principles for Nuclear Facilities (SAPs)
The SAPs are being updated to reflect both learning from Fukushima and wider changes in the industry since the SAPs were last revised in 2006.
This consultation began on 16 June 2014 and closed on 11 August 2014.
